My Girls of the Shuswap!

I am so blessed to have so many amazing, kind, generous, creative, strong and talented women in my life ~ they inspire me so much and I feel so thankful to have them as my friends.

Just this past weekend I got to hang out with my "Girls of the Shuswap" - an amazing group of ladies who are always a hoot to get together with - we laughed, and shared, caught up and spent the weekend making memories and enjoying each others' company!

Here are some of those gorgeous ladies modeling some of the scarves that they bought from me - thank you Steph for the photos!

Thanks for the support, the good times and the laughter ladies - I <3 you guys!

From My Studio ...

So I had a request from some lovely ladies to show more of my yarns and hand-knit cowls as they saw a birthday present cowl that I spun and knit for my lovely and very beautiful cousin Tara.

These are some group and single shots from the Studio Garden.

Surf's Up! Handspun

One more of my handspun yarns. This one is called "Surf's Up!" and the yearling mohair locks that represent the ocean crested waves are super soft and silky - irresistible!

I think this one might be destined for a warm and cozy winter cowl ...

"Pixy Stix" Spiral Ply Handspun

As promised ...

This is my super-fun to do, random-mixed-up-colours, spiral-ply handspun, or at least one of them! I've done this technique a few times already because it's such a great way to play with your bits and bobs from the dye pot :)

I call it "Pixy Stix"

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Extreme Tailspinning "My Fair Lady"

The next one to show you is called
"My Fair Lady"

She is extreme tailspun from my hand dyed Teeswater Locks and the effect is like they are still raw and in their natural state on the sheep ... only slightly brighter coloured.

Although I absolutely love this technique it took me a really, really LOOONG time to do, and the skein you see is only approximately 12 yards!

But still, she is pretty, no?

Davy Jones Locker Handspun

Hello Everyone ~

I finally got myself together this morning and brought some of my handspun to show you all.

I'm setting myself a goal of getting a new one photographed and posted every day or two so you can check back and see what I've been up to on my spinning wheels :)

The first one is a lovely soft hand-dyed corespun Alpaca which has been stack-plied with gemstones, coconut beads, glass beads and skully beads. It's over 8 oz in weight!

I wanted it to have an undulating seaweed, tentacley, and deep sea-ness feel to it, like things that have been left, and forgotten, out to sea for too long ...

It's called "Davy Jones Locker"

The Wonder of Trim!

So what do you do when your littlest one is down to one pair of shorts and you have a ridiculously hot week of weather coming up?

You turn to the Wonder of Trim to save you!

My wee one grows out of - or wears out - her pants so quickly that it was easy to find a couple pairs that I could cut the bottom pant leg off (and after much deliberation on her part which one), sew on the requested trim choice to create a fun, exciting and "new" pair of shorts for her!

Then with the remaining pant legs, and since the sewing machine was hauled out onto the kitchen table anyway ... I used some brown courderoy to finally sew up the holes in the elbows on one of my fave hoodies!

Oval patches seemed too Harvard professor for me so I opted for hearts instead :)

Then, just for fun, and because it had some lovely embroidery on it, we used another pant leg in a collaborative effort between me and the wee one and made this quick, and easy, little purse to go with her new shorts ...

She LOVED it!

... and Mummy was once again saved by the Wonder of Trim! Yay!
