"Stormy Seas" Cowl ...

Working on my "Stormy Seas" cowl and using some of my very first handspun.

I'm really enjoying it :)

Perfect activity for a cold and winter-ish Thursday!

Where the Wild Things Are ...

I have been wanting to make this yarn for ages and finally got the time and the perfect fibre to make it happen this past weekend.

"Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak was one of my brother's favourite books growing up and one I now read with delight to my children.

It has an incredibly special place in my heart and in my memories.

The yarn isn't quite done and so far has taken me two days to create ... but I wanted to share with you some of the in progress photos anyway.

The first ply on the bobbin (above)

Plyed and on the Niddy-Noddy - starting to really feel the Wild Thing-ness now!

And then someone came in and stole my seat while I was taking pictures ...

It was time to make a cup of tea anyway.

Straight from the Bobbin

So I have been trying my hand at some more traditional spinning and last night I finally got a chance to ply it up on my wheel :)

First on the Jumbo Bobbin ...

Then on to the Niddy Noddy ...

And finally fresh from the wheel, and a little full of energy ... the yarn!

Home tonight for a bath and a wash to set the twist and it will be good to go!

Happy Spinning Everyone!

A Walk on the Wild Side

I apologize in advance if this post seems rather lengthy, picture-wise, it is a HUGE skein (comprised of about 10 art batts!) that I made doing demonstrations at my local Fall Fair.

I'm all for promoting happy sheep, and wool, and spinning, and knitting, and ...

well, you get the idea ...

So I started by making some cRAzY fun art batts on my Wild Carder thinking that I would spin up one or two at a time but I was having so much fun and getting asked so many questions that I just kept adding batt after batt until ... voila!

"A Walk on the Wild Side"

Ky the Amazing Colourist!

Just had to share this delicious coloured roving with you! It's by my amazing friend Ky who has a spectacular eye for colour and I love how she blends it in her rovings and her plied handspun - I'll be honest ... I covet a LOT of her yarns!

Isn't it yummy!

I haven't yet decided in what way I would like to create with this one yet and I don't think I have finished enjoying it's colour and beauty as a roving just yet.

But I did want to share it all with you so that you can admire the amazingness of Ky too!

Big Hugs and Thank You Ky!

Boho Scarf Beginnings!

Just thought I would share a WIP (Work in Progress) that I have been playing around with today ... it's some of my hand dyed and handspun chunky yarn that I thought might be the beginnings of a bohemian-style scarf ... so far we have some HUGE palm sized crochet flowers!

Crocheted on a US17 - 12mm hook - they were super fun to do! Itching to add more to this when I get home - maybe some art yarn, ooh! and sari yarn and some tassels perhaps? ;)

Man I love handspun!!

Hoping all your adventures are fun-filled and creative this weekend!

Fibre Mojo!!

Just a quick post folks - had to share this with you all because I am SO excited!

(Insert evil laugh here: Mwa-ha-ha!)

I scooped this from the amazing colourist Nikki Marshall so that I can spin it up for her!

I'm thinking in a wonderful spiral plied art yarn maybe, or something big and bouncy, oooh beehives perhaps ... hmmm the possibilities are endless and it's sparked my creative fibre mojo!

The pictures don't even do the depth of colour justice - they are juicy and nummy and fibre-delicious!

I am a lucky girl!

Sugar Rush

A while back I was reminiscing about when we were kids and thinking about all the crazy candy that we used to absolutely gorge ourselves on when we were kids and were handed a pocket full of change to run to the local grocery store and fill up a wee brown paper bag with ...

We could use up every single penny and the bright colours of all the sugary confections in the bag were a delight to the eyes and a tummy ache just waiting to happen!

This fluffy, colurful, sugary pink and sour apple green yarn is my homage to all those sweet childhood moments ;)

Introducing "Sugar Rush"

Wishing you all fun fibre adventures!
